Very nice. Can you choose the preferences that go into making decisions is basically my response to the free will or determinism conversation.

The space exercise is valuable, but I’ve also found the practice of noticing space in a room rather than its contents as a beautiful metaphor for noticing space in the mind rather than thoughts.

I’ve also heard recently the concept of time being consciousness, which I found interesting.

Noticing space in a room rather than its contents is a good one. About the concept of time being consciousness, I think we can even include space in that. As in, space-time is necessary for anything to appear, and yet is itself invisible.

This felt like an out of body experience.

It’s interesting to consider the self as a separate being from its actions and perceptions. It begs so many questions like what is thought? And if the self isn’t in control of this thought then what is?

And in that stream of consciousness where thoughts exist, are we all just fetching from the same well? If we are, then what makes my thoughts differ from yours?

If we’re not, then does my self attract a specific stream of thoughts for a particular reason? If so, what’s that reason? What the deciding factor?

Yeah, all very enticing questions. Tragicomic that we can only speculate about them.

Tragicomic indeed
